Dr Joyce Koh is a senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Singapore General Hospital. She is from the Trauma Service and has subspecialty interests in Upper Extremity and OrthoGeriatric Trauma. She is usually referred complex trauma especially of the shoulder and elbow with a need for reconstruction or replacement and have also worked in multi-disciplinary efforts with the Plastic surgeons. Research interests include Geriatric trauma with specific interests in atypical femur fractures for which she has numerous publications with good citations, presentations and ongoing collaborative research. She also regularly reviews for established journals including Osteoporosis International, New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA Open, JAMDA and British Journal of Anaesthesia. Another area of interest and research is in novel emerging technologies. She and the local team work closely with Professor Bernard F Morrey and colleagues from the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN on the early safety and efficacy trials and clinical implementation of a device for image-guided minimally invasive ltrasonic tenotomy for recalcitrant tendinopathy, and has completed the long term follow-up of the technology which is accepted for publication. The technology has successfully translated into clinical use in the USA and the Asean region. Currently, Dr Koh is on the Shoulder Expert Taskforce of the AO Foundation, involved in the design of state-of-the-art upper extremity trauma devices. In December 2024, the team was awarded the AO Technical Commission Innovation Prize 2024 for development of the VA Clavicle System.
